Up for sale is a lovely photograph print by artist Bruce Blum. The matte COLOR photograph print is approximately 8 1/2″ X 14″ and is matted. With the matting it is approximately 20″ X 16″. It is SIGNED and TITLED in pencil by the artist (there is no numbering). The photo print is on a thick textured paper as shown in last photo. Bruce Blum is a mostly self-taught photographer that is in his seventh decade as a photographer. Mr. Blum attended workshops in Woodstock and at the Smithsonian and is a member of the Maryland Art League(president 2007-2009), the Senior Artists Alliance, Maryland Federation of Art and the Maryland Art Place. His work has been described in the Baltimore Sun and Washington Post newspapers. He spent much of his life as an amateur photographer but in 1990 began to exhibit his work. Most of his work explores the interplay of light and dark in an abstracted or foreign setting. Many of which are of nature or landscapes. She had just been diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa – A degenerative eye disease which will lead to blindness. When we met she could still see but the progression was just starting to occur. There is no cure, it just progresses at different rates for each person. This genetic disease is passed down through generations. The only way to stop it was to not have any children of our own. This was not an easy choice for me to come to terms with. I always thought I would have children. I came from a large family and thought that children was the natural way my life would progress. I feel the photographs I make are important as they are reminders for my wife to have of the places we saw when her sight was better. They now fill the walls of our home just as our friends have pictures of their children on their walls. At home when I look across the room and see a photograph that I took on one of our trips and describe what I see Rebekah will remember with her detailed recollections of her experience that are enriched by her other senses. She will remember sounds, smells and feelings that she had. She will even describe the meal in detail that she ate at the lodge that day. Hearing her take on the experience gives me a greater insight and perspective of her perception which brings us even closer as a couple. In my family my siblings have not had any children. I am the last youngest male in my family tree which means that without children my family name will end. I have nobody to pass my legacy of images onto. I will be the first to tell you what I did to get this shot was really stupid and dont ever do it! I saw this train coming from a long way away. I had a big lens on the camera and took the shot but wasnt happy with it. So I changed the lens and laid down on the ties in between the rails and took this shot. The train was still a good distance away but I probably gave the engineer a heart attack. I always have been willing to take a chance to get a great shot.
