Charles Shepherd Henry Hunter, Jr., U.S. Army, a regimental chaplain, and his wife, the former Althea Ruth Brown. In 1961, Hunter became part of the civil rights movement when she and Hamilton Holmes became the first two African-American students to enroll in the University of Georgia. She graduated in 1963.

This is a large framed photograph called «Abandon» that I purchased in 1993 at an art show. The photographer was there and told me this is a bicycle covered in a powdery snow at the University of Boulder in Colorado. He said after the snow storm it had an eery pink glow which you can see in the photograph. It is quite striking. The picture is professionally framed and double matted with gray and pink mats and a pink frame which pick up the colors of the photograph. The photo itself is 12″ x 8-3/4″. The whole frame is 22-1/4″ x 18-1/4″.

It appears this photograph was a gift to someone working at Stanford in 1972-73. The card will be included with the photograph. -The photograph has several condition issues. It is as found. Th photograph is adhered to a thick matte board. It has rippling at the bottom edge. It has clear glue like spots which can be seen off angle especially with aimed light. Bannerman’s Island. It is an island in the Hudson river close to the east shore between Cold Spring and Beacon NY. I have been photographing this island for years. There is history behind this island. The native Americans who inhabited the area thought the island to be haunted. The castle was built by an arms dealer very early in the 20th century. His warehouse was originally in Brooklyn. He got his start by buying up surplus arms from the Spanish American war. He was asked to get out of Brooklyn so He bought the island and built a Scottish style castle and home on the island and moved his business there. For whatever reason his business failed and the castle stood empty for years. There were caretakers looking after the Island and from what my mother tells me her Great Uncle was one. I dont remember what year it was but when I was a little boy I was going across the Newburgh Beacon Bridge with my Grandparents and I remember my grandmother saying to my grandfather «Oh Earl look! the castle is burning» . The castle has been deteriorating ever since and it has been one of my favorite photographic subjects since my first kodak instamatic. This picture was taken just before most of the castle collapsed. There is still one main wall standing and things have been done to shore up that wall but it should have been done long ago. hopefully this will help remember what once was . Kingston NY waterfront boats water resturaunt sunlight canvas print metal print
In June of 2014 I started to take a boat trip up the Hudson River through The Champlain Canal in our old family boat (1961 Skee Craft Mahogany boat) We got as far as the bridges at Ravena and I started feeling something off in the boat so we turned around and headed back. I stopped and refueled in Hudson and we continued on. We got just past the cement plant in Cementon and the motor just lost power and quit. I pulled the cowlings and restarted the motor and the flywheel was wobbling. Broken crankshaft. Worse yet an Ulster County Sheriff went by in their boat. I fired a flare and tried to flag him down and he just kept going! Some guy came by and towed me too a friends house in Saugerties. I had been taking pictures the whole trip and when I finally got home. I sent every picture to the editor of Hudson Valley Magazine on a whim. He called me about a month later and asked me if I could take the boat and photograph the towns along the Hudson from the boat for and article in the April 2015 Hudson Valley Magazine! I said Absolutely! Then I thought to myself…. OH NO! My boat is still broken. I told one of my cousins what was going on and he said «borrow mine» I didnt even ask he volunteered!. So in Sept of 2014 I went from Highland NY to New York City back up river to Albany then back to Highland by boat photographing the towns along the river. Talk about awesome? I got to do an awesome trip doing two things that I absolutely love and got paid to do it! Then the icing on the cake ? 7 pics were published in the April 2015 Hudson Valley Magazine and 10 were published in the online edition!!!!!
