Original KAY BELL REYNAL Famous Artist Writer PHOTO – Listed Vogue PHOTOGRAPHER
ORIGINAL KAY BELL REYNAL (1910-1977) ‘FAMOUS PERSON’ GELATIN SILVER PHOTOGRAPH This is a great piece. For anyone who has followed my store recently, I have been buying and selling a lot more photography lately. I think it is an area that is just starting to catch up with other art forms in collecting. And I still think it has a long way to go. I recently purchased a pair of wonderful original photographs by important fashion photographer Kay Bell Reynal. For those not familiar with the photographer, I have included her biography below. She is really a very famous photographer with works in museums throughout the world including the Smithsonian, MOMA, and others. I wish I knew who the subject of this photograph is. I am nearly 100% confident that this is some famous writer or artist but no idea who. If you know who it is, please let me know. It is a large gelatin silver photograph measuring 11 x 9 1/4 inches. Photograph is in good condition with just some spotting along the lower left corner. Signed in pencil below the image lower right on the mount. The photograph is on its original mount and the mount has the matte laid down to the front of it. Looks to be a contemporary- ish frame that is complimentary and ready to hang. Frame measures 21 x 18 inches. If you collect Reynal photographs check my store for the other one I offering. Probably someone famous but I am not sure. If you know who it is, please let me know. Add only $5 more for S&H&I if you buy both Reynal photographs. For those not familiar with the photographer, her biography from the National Portrait Gallery reads: «Reynal took up photography as the result of a dare in 1943. She was working as an associate editor for Vogue in New York, and was given a camera by the then art director. Two years later she set up a studio in an Eastside townhouse, and there, working with a hand-held camera by natural light, she produced fashion photographs and portraits that are marked by their elegance and informality. In 1947 she married the publisher Eugene Reynal, and through him came into contact with many of the leading writers of the day, often photographing them ‘after lunch,’ as she put it, in relaxed and less guarded moments. «CHECK THE PICTURES ON THIS GREAT PIECE.
