After studying painting at The Art Institute of Chicago Vestal took up photography after moving to New York City in the late 1940s. Vestal was a lifelong educator teaching at the Parsons School of Design, The School of the visual Arts and the Pratt Institute over the course of his career.

GEORGE FORSS was discovered by the renowned photographer David Douglas Duncan. Twenty images were selected for the museum archives. The photo is entitled, «East River Fireworks» and dates from about 1985.
