This plate comes from a private collection that belonged to a photographer collaborating with the Maison de la Bonne Presse. Founded in July 1873, Maison de la Bonne Presse was an important French publishing house. It had this name until 1969, before becoming Bayard Presse in 1970, in order to modernize its image. An elegant young woman poses seated on a stone wall, holding a small notebook in her hands. Her striped dress with a wide collar and her light hat decorated with a geometric pattern demonstrate the sober elegance of the 1920s–1930s. The natural setting of cacti and trees suggests a southern scene, bathed in sunlight. This shot captures both the freshness of a moment of relaxation and the sartorial refinement of the interwar period, where each accessory becomes a sign of eleganc.
