Here we have a photo showing Dr. Wernher von Braun, along with other German scientists, after surrendering to U.S. Army Counterintelligence personnel of the 44th Infantry Division in Reutte during the closing months of World War II. Dr. Von Braun was a leading rocket engineer for the Third Reich, holding the rank of SS-Sturmbannfhrer . He was brought to the United States in what was known as Operation Paperclip and is considered the father of rocket technology and space science in the United States for his involvement in NASA.
