Conklin was a pioneer in Fine Art Photography using X-Rays. He wrote two books about his world wide exhibited and acclaimed X-Ray Photography: (Nature’s Art: Inner and Outer Dimensions of the Shell), Published 1989 by University of South Carolina Press and (Inner Dimensions: The Radiographic World of William Conklin), 1994, Published by Wrs Pub. His work is in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian Institution. Mr. Conklin was born in Charleston and a graduate of the Roper Hospital School of X-Ray Technology. He was Director of the School of X-Ray Technology at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg where he worked for 27 years. Mr. Conklin was an author and professional lecturer and gained international acclaim through his pioneering work in combining the sciences of radiography, photography, and conchology to develop fine art in radiography/photography of seashells. He was a fellow in the American Society of Radiologic Technologists. His photographic exhibition of seashells has toured the nation and is part of the Smithsonian permanent collection.
