This plate comes from a private collection that belonged to a photographer collaborating with the Maison de la Bonne Presse. Founded in July 1873, Maison de la Bonne Presse was an important French publishing house. It had this name until 1969, before becoming Bayard Presse in 1970, in order to modernize its image. Under the gilding of a refined decor, a bourgeois living room is meticulously recreated: carved woodwork, chandeliers and rococo style armchairs. In the center, a woman in a long dress and a man in dark clothing exchange, embodying the characters of a society drama.
