War, Sermaize, Glass photo stereo plate, positive black & white 4.5×10.7 cm
PLEASE NOTE this is a POSITIVE. Dimensions of the plaque: approximately 4.5 x 10.7 cm. Photo taken by a soldier photographer during the First World War. May 6, 1916, Sermaize, Somme, France. The image shows a scene of destruction, with partially destroyed buildings and ruins scattered on the ground. Chimneys and brick structures still remain standing, recalling traces of the original architecture, but many of the walls and structures appear to have been blown away or demolished. Soldiers or civilians appear in the scene, observing or passing through this environment marked by the ravages of war.
